Objective
The project is based on the installation of a tubular turbine and associated generator in the spillway of the Stratos I project in order to capture energy from water supplied for irrigation purposes. The expected annual energy output from the Stratos II station is 16,260,000 kWh and the unit cost of the energy produced is 2. 71 Drs/kWh.
Project technically and economically successful. Minor technical problems were successfully overcome.
The Stratos II hydroelectric plant comprises two identical turbine /generator units, situated in a section of the spillway of the Stratos I HEP dam..
The water discharged by the Stratos II plant is used for irrigation purposes and would otherwise have been discharged downstream without utilising its potential energy. The Commission support on this project is for the provision of one of the turbine/generating units and its subsequent testing. The design data for the unit is :
Turbine Head 16. 8 m
Flow 31 m3/s
Output 3000 kw
Speed 300 rev/min
Type Tubular, double controlled
Generator Rating 3150 kw
Voltage 6 kv, 50 kz, 3 phase
Speed 300 rev/min
Type Synchronous
The electricity produced is connected to the grid at a 20 kv switchyard.
