Objective
Irrespective of the preparation methods of sea-salt, bittern containing more than 20 times higher salt content than the Black-Sea water remain after the salt crystallization. These bittern are usually returned to the sea again and are very harmful for both fauna and flora. The only environmental friendly alternative is their complex utilization through developing of new wasteless technologies.
The main objective of the present project is constructing models of sea water, bittern and other natural solutions of the marine-type system for planning industrial crystallization and extraction processes. For this aim it is expected to compile a data-base with all existing data on the six-component marine-type system and carrying out experiments for completing literature data or specifying uncertain data. Methods of critical evaluation the solubilities will be used for establishment of the most probable solubility diagrams. Using solubility data and thermodynamic studies on ionic activities and osmotic coefficients of water the parameters concerning binary and ternary ionic interactions in the systems will be determined. Studies aimed at elucidating the connection between these parameter values and the solution's structure (ionic interactions, complex formation, association and hydration processes) will be carried out. On this basic models for simulation of multicomponent systems will be elaborated. A complete computer programme will be created for solution of any problems associated with crystallization of salts by water evaporation or polythermal crystallization at arbitrary composition of the multicomponent marine-type system.
Application of the elaborated computer programme is foreseen for optimization the crystallization processes in the Black-Sea waste bittern in order to develop methods for their utilization. Elaboration of a wasteless complex technology for production of magnesium hydroxide and sulphate, gypsum for building applications, potassium chloride, etc. is expected. Pilot-plant investigations in "Chernomorski Solnitzi" Ltd. salt production enterprise Burgas, Bulgaria will be carried out for testing the industrial applicability of the technology, obtaining the necessary technological requirements data and economic substation for elaboration of a proposal for introduction the technology in the industry.
