Objective
The conference addresses problems of old industrial regions faced with coal mine restructuring. The focus will be on the cases of Don'ts (Ukraine) and the Northeast of England although there will also be contributions about the experiences of Silesia (Poland), North East Hungary, Pas de Calais (France) and some Russian regions. Special attention will be given to environmental and health issues. With respect to the North East of England, particular attention will be for lessons to be drawn for Central and Eastern Europe. The audience will be academic experts, sector specialists and representatives from politics and the business community involved in regional economic restructuring. The conference aims to strengthen academic links between the North East and partner organisation in Central and Eastern Europe.
