Development of environmentally benign technology for deep recovery of elemental sulphur from technological off -gasses of metallurgical coke plants and chemical refineries of crude oil.

Objective

The primary objective of the project is to develop the environmentally benign technology for deep chemical recovery of elemental sulphur from off-gasses of metallurgical coke plants and chemical refineries of crude oil. The production of the industrially valuable elemental sulphur by applying a direct catalytic oxidation of hydrogen sulphide and oxidative regeneration of sorbets loaded with hydrogen sulphide will be combined with the exhaust purification unto required sulphur level. Catalysts for selective oxidation of H2S to elemental sulphur and sorbets for H2S capture enabling a direct sulphur recovery upon oxidative regeneration will be developed. These should achieve at least 98 %efficiency upon operation in diluted (below 5 vol. % of H2S) and concentrated (above 5 vol. % of H2S) technological gas streams in the presence of hydrocarbons, ammonia and water vapour at the temperature below 300 °C. The developed technology will enable sulphur recovering from off -gasses of coke plants and oil refineries concentrated in the densely populated industrial areas of Russia and Ukraine that are environmentally unsafe because of hydrogen sulphide emissions.
