The formation of phytotoxic substance trichloroacetic acid - its significance for the desertification of semiarid and arid regions in southern russia and its influence on the natural resources of artic regions in northern russia.

Objective

Trides is designed to help:
1.) Achieve a better understanding of significance of the inputs of trichloro-acetic (TCA) found in the vegetation as another possible anthropogenic factor behind the ongoing de-certification observed for some 30 years in the southern Russian regions between the Caspian Sea and the Black sea.
2. ) Highlight new aspects of desertification, knowledge of which in turn provide additional decision options for those with political responsibility in TCA polluted regions in southern and northern Russia . This will represent a contribution by the EU to the economic and ecological situation and thus also the security of this southern Russian region.
3. ) Avert damage to associated EU states caused by the possible follow-up effects of advancing desertification, such as transnational salt/ sandstorms.
4. ) Assess the ecotoxicolcxical risk for biodiversity of the natural vegetation in Artic regions affected by air pollution, and thus provide an opportunity for the regional authorities in northern Russia to identify wilderness areas which are especially threatened by TCA input and to initiate measures for their protection.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
