Improved quality management in the euro-mediterranean fruits and vegetables processing industry.

Objective

The general objective of the Thematic Network is to promote the competitiveness of the fruits and vegetables sector of the agro-food industry in the Third Mediterranean Countries by improving quality management of the food processing enterprises . Starting from the current situation in the regions countries and on the existing scientific and technological knowledge in the field of post-harvest physiology and preserving technologies, food-processing techniques, and quality assessment methodologies, the network will propose a set of recommendations common for the whole region. Assuming that quality improvement of food products and quality management will increase food industry competitiveness, the consequent recommendations of the network will bring strong positive effects on national and regional economies , especially in terms of employment in SMEs , rural development and consumer health.
