Advances in epidemetric parameters of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis to validate tools for surveillance and control

Objective

This proposal is related to zoometric coetaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL) which remains a serious unresolved public health problem worldwide. The project consists to refine the validity of classical (leishmanin skin test) and new (antibodies to sand flysaliva, cytotoxic Tcell response) parameters for a better understanding of thepathogenesis of L. major infection and to develop mathematical models for the prediction of the dynamics of infection and the outcome of control measures. The study design consists of a prospective population study of individuals living into different ZCL foci. The effect of host-related factors on the clinical expression of the infection will be assessed considering environmental factors. This will permit a better knowledge of key parameters governing dynamics of infection and will prepare the ground for better evaluation of anti-leishmanialdrugs and vaccines.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
