Southeast asia in transition. social transitions, environmental impacts and policies for sustainable development

Objective

'Southeast Asia in Transition' aims at studying ongoing social and related ecological transition processes in 4 different Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines).A consortium of 7 Southeast Asian and 5 European partners will carry out separate country studies and then analyse the generated data along selected thematic priorities according to different methodologies supplied by the European partners. By identifying relevant factors of society-environment relations in individual countries and through comparison, the consortium will work out policy option for sustainable development in the region. Furthermore, the consortium plans to establish a permanent research network on 'Transition Studies' beyond the duration of the project.
