Trade the the Environment: Policy Research Needs (With Emphasis on Agriculture)

Objective

The objective of the proposal is to set regional and topics priorities for international co-operation with developing countries on the agricultural trade and environment issue , providing a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas regarding future policy research needs in such a field. The format of the workshop will encourage participants to pursue the following specific objectives: a) think creatively about what factors will have the greatest impact on trade, environment and agriculture in the next 10-20 years; b) highlight the steps and the research needs to develop a strategy that outlines actions to achieve by the year 2020 world with freer, less distorted and more equitable trade, and, at the same time, a better preserved environment. The expected output of the workshop are concept notes for joint proposals addressing various aspects of the trade-environment issue for the year 2000 INCO Calls.
