Objective
The proposal is a multicenter randomised trial with 2 nested studies.
(1) The aim of the randomised trial is to compare the effect of directly observed treatment (DOT) and self supervised treatment (SST) on cure rates in pulmonary TB patients in the context of a flexible and patient-centred approach to care. A total of 1412 TB patients will be randomly assigned to one of 2 arms. In the intervention arm, a DOT strategy will be carried out.
(2) A patient patient-centred approach will be implemented in both arms and evaluated in terms of processes.
(3) Focus groups discussions and interviews with patients & caregivers will be conducted to explore perceptions of DOT & SST and barriers to treatment adherence.
