Estuaries and coastal areas. basis and tools for a more sustainable development

Objective

The general objective of ECOSUD is to improve the existing knowledge about the different processes involved in estuarine and coastal waters use and degradation. This will be achieved by a synergetic combination of field observations (meteorological, hydrodynamic, water quality and socio-economic parameters) and numerical simulations (based on a modelling suite composed of circulation, dispersion and water quality codes plus an integrated method to evaluate lagoon and estuarine resources). This approach will be applied to two complimentary field cases (Patos Lagoon in Brazil and the Jucar Estuary in Spain) covering short and long residence times, and a range of stratification and climatic conditions. The end result will be a set of fie health fl indicators defining the acceptable pollution load for lagoon/estuarine environments and leading to the definition of more sustainable management options.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
