Electronic distance training on sustainability in african local governments: experiences, potentials and policy options for knowledge management and human resource building for local governments in the global information society.

Objective

Nine European and African partners representing the scientific community, local government, training and Internet service providers will form a thematic network and co-operate over 24 months. The objective of the network is to use the common knowledge base to support local sustainable development trough opportunities provided by the Information Society and ICT identification of policy options for the use of innovative information society technologies in training for senior officials in African local governments. Based on the partners' previous works and experiences, they will assess training needs and availability of ICT in African local governments and identify adequate training methods and technologies in order to definite framework conditions and develop policy options for a responsible promoting of electronic distance training for African cities. The findings will be actively disseminated among decision makers in Africa and Europe; exploitation strategies exist.
