15th triennial conference of the european association for potato research (EAPR)

Objective

Potato as the world's fourth most important crop plant is central object of the 15th Triennial Conference of Potato Research which will take place in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2002. Since the importance of potato is significantly growing in the developing countries, particularly in subtropical Africa and Asia. Consequently, the interest of scientists of these countries to participate in the conference is high. A strong obstacle to participate is of financial nature. The organizers of the 15th conference are presently not in the fortunate situation to offer grants to excellent colleagues of each country and thus the actual number of registrations of potato experts from the tropics and subtropics is low. Since they would, however, contribute substantially to the meeting, we ask for EU-support to give grants of 1500 Euros to about 25 selected scientists of developing countries.
