Latin american network for research on the biology and control of triatominae

Objective

The ECLAT network has been set up to carry out research on the biosystematics, population genetics, and behaviour of Diatomite bugs, in support of Chagas disease vector control programmes throughout Latin America. An important focus of the work is to improve understanding of the evolutionary processes involved in adaptation of silvatic species to colonise domestic environments. During the course of these studies, a wide series of phonetic and genetic markers is being investigated, both to aid in biosystematics studies and also provide markers for studying reification of treated dwellings during the course of post-control surveillance. The network plays a key role in advising governments about intervention strategies, and in monitoring control trials.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
