Objective
A lot of hydrocarbon and wind energy resources are available in ice-infested sea areas. The exploitation of those resources is retarded by difficulties in evaluating forces that arise while a drifting ice floe acts against the offshore structure installed on the seabed. Hence, the present work aims at solving persistent problems of dynamic ice-structure interaction. Scientific knowledge and measured data scattered in the EU and China will be pooled to create a basis for a step change in an understanding of the interaction phenomena concerned. Full-scale data from Chinese platforms have a central role in the efforts of this network. Researchers will be sent to partner institutes in Europe and in China for a joint analysis of all available data. The deliverables comprise a set of publications on the scientific problems concerned. In addition, the feasibility of an international design code for ice loads is evaluated and reported.
