EFFICIENT USAGE OF REMOTE AND ONLINE PUBLICATION OF MULTI-MEDIA MATERIAL

Exploitable results

The online catalogue provides a web based repository and exchange medium for developers of interactive multimedia learning materials. The catalogue supports component based application development through effective component discovery, search, reuse, and upload functions. Components in the catalogue are accompanied by descriptive metadata, which obey the emerging Learning Object Metadata (LOM) standard. The catalogue is both operational on a relational database and on the Hyperwave information server. Its underlying data model is derived from the Dexter reference model. It implements a strict separation of content and hyper-linking. The core functionality of the catalogue is supplemented by background functions such as access and change control, LDAP authentication, and some adaptation features. The catalogue provides a web interface for administrator, content provider, and user. The catalogue is accessible through standard web browsers. Multimedia components can be viewed directly in the browser, provided that the proper plug-ins are available when needed. A demo version of the catalogue can be visited under: https://mmk.fernuni-hagen.de/ The catalog is maintained as open source software in the German CampusSource collection: http://www.campussource.de/org/software/mmc/
