INTEGRATED PLANT OF COGENERATION AND TWO STAGE ABSORPTION LIQUID CHILLER FOR A PHAMACEUTICAL COMPANY

Objective

The aim of this project is to apply and test innovative technologies that enhance energy savings and rationalize management of thermal power grids in a pharmaceutical industry by :
- reducing energy per product unit
- reducing maintenance
- producing low-cost chilled liquids.
Implementation of the project will not only comply with current environmental regulations, but will also provide additional benefits in terms of reduced environment impact.

It is proposed that innovative technologies for meeting the energy requirements of a pharmaceutical industry be applied and tested. In the course of project implementation, several energy savings possibilities will be examined :
- use of a 1 MW gas turbine to self-generate electric power
- exploitation of exhaust gases for steam production
- use of portion of the steam to power a two-stage absorption liquid chiller
- low temperature heat recovery
- revised management of the thermal power grids as part of the new saving criteria.
The project entails five phases :
PHASE 1 : PROJECT PLANNING AND LAYOUT
In this stage, all the data necessary for the definition of the complete project in terms of plants and equipment and layout will be acquired. Measurements of energy consumption before the implementation of the project and on existent plants and equipment will be carried out.
PHASE 2 : INSTALLATION AND TESTING
All the systems defined in phase 1 will be installed. The testing conductedduring this phase might result in modification to the initial project.
PHASE 3 : TEST ORIENTATION AND STUDY OF THE ENERGY-OPTIMIZATION POSSIBILITIES
The operation of the complete plant will be verified and any modifcations decided upon during phase 2 will be carried out. The results obtained in phase 1 will be used in evaluating the plant's various operating possibilities.
PHASE 4 : EXPERIMENTAL TESTING
Testing will be conducted to determine the plant's optimal operating conditions and its responses at various operating conditions.
PHASE 5 : INFORMATION
It is interesting for innovative project, a phase in which it is proposed to organize contact and meetings with other EC industries and journal articles and conference papers to prove the technical and economic viability of new technologies applied in the project.
