Objective
Realisation of a new improved design electric tank and combined electric/gas fired forehearth hand gathering bay system to provide high quality soda-lime glass for giftware and tableware.L%
It seems that the Coordinator of the project wants to continue with it, but probably with some modifications. There isn't any more interest in an electric furnace, as it should be in the project, but instead of that there is a preference by a similar furnace consuming propane (and prepared to consume natural gas in future).
Construction of an advanced melting tank to reduce energy consumption and emissions. The furnace melting area will be fed automatically, increased immersion depth of power electrodes; furnace campaign between repairs can be extended to approximately 5 years. 0.077 TOE/tonne of glass as power requirement to new insulation materials in the furnace, monitoring of all system parameters, production : 18 tonnes per day.
Innovative aspects : full electric furnace with combined electric/gas-fired, forehearth hand gathering bay, automatic batch charger, flexible production, control strategy, advanced dust filtration system for minimum particulate emissions and use of improved stirrer system design to facilitate easy operation and maintenance. The use of these tests will allow the use of around 0.9 kWh to melt 1 kg of glass, which represents a considerable improvement regarding the common value of 4.5 kWh/Kg glass in conventional fuel-fired furnaces.
