The Solar-terrestrial climate link in the past millenia and its influence on future climate

Objective

The Project is aimed at the investigation of interrelationship between Sun's activity and climate (both global and regional) over a time scale of a few millennia. For this purpose a series of experimental and theoretical studies will be performed including annual reconstruction of summer temperature in northern Fennoscandia during the last 7000 years, annual dating of tree-rings from northern Fennoscandia and Baltic with the subsequent measurement of 14C and 13C concentrations. These data can provide reliable information about general changes of solar activity during at least the last 1000 years, annual restoration of solar irradiance during last 300 years, essential improvement of modern methods of statistical analyses of non-stationary data corrupted by noises and gaps and development of new statistical approaches, further development of solar dynamo theory and solar-terrestrial physics. Thorough and exhaustive statistical analyses of all the available solar and climatic data, including those obtained in framework of the Project, will be performed using all the complexity of modern methods of mathematical statistics, including approaches developed in framework of the Project. General conclusions about the character, mechanism and time evolution of a solar-climate link will be made on the basis of these analyses. The results will permit us to provide a forecast for global climate behavior during the next few centuries.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
