Electronic and magnetic properties in novel superconductors: spin fluctuations vs. electron-phonon coupling

Objective

To summarize, our proposal brings together different experts in order to investigate theoretically novel spin-singlet and spin-triplet superconductors. These are in particular the high-T_c cuprates, Sr_2RuO_4 and related materials, MgB_2, and C_60 compounds. The main goal is the clarification of the role played by electron-phonon interaction and spin fluctuations in these materials. Furthermore, the low-dimensional antiferromagnetism, non-Fermi liquid behaviour and effects due to strongly correlated electrons in the normal states as well as the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter below T_c will be analysed. Another specific objective is the analysis of the topological excitations and spin-spin correlations in related insulating parent compounds and in the spin-glass phase in order to clarify the transition from itinerant and localized limits within the many-body (thermally excited skyrmions) approach. Finally, we will work on the inclusion of non-local correlations into the conserving (perturbative) FLEX approximation, which works very successfully in hole-doped cuprates.
