Perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of QCD in high-energy interactions with nucleons and nuclei

Objective

The subject of this research collaboration is the theory of hadron structure and high-energy scattering in the context of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). It aims at probing the limits of perturbative QCD and applying non-perturbative methods to the theoretical description of hadron structure and the interactions with hadrons at high energies, i.e. deep inelastic scattering of leptons from nucleons and nuclei, and high-energy scattering of hadrons and nuclei.

It will include a study of the interplay of soft and hard mechanisms in building up the Pomeron, which determines the high energy behaviour of hadronic cross-sections, and its role in deep inelastic scattering. Another important topic is multiparticle production in hadronic and nuclear collisions, in particular the production of heavy-quark states.

The project is a collaboration between theoretical physicists from NIS and INTAS countries. All involved scientists have already collaborated for many years. They constitute a very active group that has made considerable contributions to this field.
