One of the main subjects of the project was a study of different aspects of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in the region of small x. The project encompassed theoretical interpretation of DIS in the framework of QCD, both perturbative and nonperturbative. This investigation was in the preceding INTAS project 93-0079. The subject is of high current interest since experiments at the HERA accelerator at DESY have obtained a large amount of information on these processes and could be used in this investigation. The following results have been obtained: The characteristics of the BFKL Pomeron with running coupling have been investigated, and the role of small virtualities, which limits its applicability, has been revealed. The hypothesis of universality of the Pomeron has been confirmed in small-x processes. A study of shadowing effects for structure functions of nuclei yielded information about the Q2 dependence of Regge cuts. The process of charm production in DIS and in diffractive DIS has been studied to get information about gluon distribution in the nucleon. The space-time picture of scattering amplitudes has been considered in the Regge limit of perturbative QCD. The spin-spin asymmetry in deep inelastic diffraction has been estimated in the perturbative QCD using hadron-parton duality hypothesis. The polarization of sea quark of the nucleon was estimated in the meson cloud model. General features of multiparticle distributions for various classes of processes have been studied. A new effect, the oscillations of moments of multiplicity distributions, has been found. The production of charmed particles was described in the modified quark-gluon model, taking into account the contribution due to resonance decay. The distribution in the azimuthal angle between two produced heavy quarks has been analyzed in LO QCD. The change of the spectra of J/ mesons due to nuclear shadowing has been estimated. Predictions were obtained for the x-region where such effects can be expected to appear. The modification of the properties of hadronic resonances in the nuclear medium has been considered for different cases. A new approach to interrelation of confinement and chiral symmetry has been developed. Numerical solutions for the spectra and wave functions of quark-antiquark systems connected by string have been obtained. All the major modes of the decay of B-mesons have been calculated and are in a good agreement with the existing data.
