Objective
The current knowledge of the biodiversity of Palaearctic Heteroptera (insects) will be summarised by a team of 20 well known specialists from 13 countries, including Russia and Ukraine. The project will result in the production of a Catalogue of Palaearctic Heteroptera and a related computerised database. For each taxon details about synonymy, type material, depository of types, distribution and main references will be included.
Information about occurrence and distribution in the NIS and adjacent regions will be gathered and analysed by a network initially formed by the specialists already mentioned for Russia and Ukraine. Revision of collection material, mainly kept in St. Petersburg, is of utmost importance in this respect.
The project is essential for further research on biodiversity in the region and for nature conservation and management.
