Alternative energy systems for polar stations

Objective

The project will test the use of renewable energies to supply heat and power for the polar situations, in order to limit the consumption of fossile and nuclear fuels and so reduce the risks and the pollution of the polar environment associated with their transport, use and handling.

Evaluating the long term weather data available the project will check the possibility of using the cold wind-sea water thermal dipole as a renewable resource to drive heat pumps and thermomechanical machines. In practical terms, the project will try to develop and design an absorption heat pump (thermo-tranformator). By doing so, it will be possible to fulfill the immediate objective of the collaboration with Krenkel, i.e. to help maintaining a scientific activity on the base.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
