Transition metal complexes as sources of active radical species in biological and chemical systems

Objective

This project will develop systems generating active radicals for biological and chemical applications. It is based on: studies of cobalt and rhodium complex catalysts producing active oxygen species via redox reactions involving 02; synthesis and investigation of pH-dependent organocobalt sources of carbon-centred free radicals; and preliminary data on the biological activities of these complexes.

The research includes the synthesis of relevant transition metal complexes; the study of their redox characteristics and interaction with redox agents; the search for their chemical applications, first of all as initiators of radical reactions; the screening complex catalysts most active in cleavage of nucleic acids; the design of site-specific nucleases composed of a complex and a targeting oligonucleotide; the investigation of their efficiency in the cleavage of an RNA-target; and the investigation of biological activities of the complexes in question.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
