Objective
The aim of the project is to make a significant step forward in the understanding, characterization and production of alkali ion induced interface formation at semiconductor surfaces. The ion energy regime at which an interface changes, or modification occurs, involves the interplay between implantation, mixing, sputtering, diffusion, phase transformation and segregation. In order to cover these different aspects of the problem, it is necessary to join different approaches by sharing expertise and resources.
Alkaline overlays will be characterized by Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction, ion scattering combined with computer simulation, X-ray photon spectroscopy and Rutherford back scattering. The modelling will be achieved by computer simulation. The TRIM code will be used to model the interplay between sputtering and recoil mixing. The MARLOWE code will be used to identify the crystallographic effects and to assist in the interpretation of the ion scattering data.
