Non-linear and quantum optics of super-strong laser fields in plasma

Objective

The goal of this project is the generation of super-intense laser intensities up to 1020ÊW/cm{2} and the study of the interaction with matter of the associated super-strong high electric fields. The study will be directed along two guidelines.

First, an investigation of absorption and scattering mechanisms of subpicosecond laser radiation in condensed medium at intensities of 1017 - 1020 W/cm{2}. The theoretical approach will be conducted by the NIS team with help from the German team. Results will be compared with experimental observations obtained on the experiments driven by the Coordinator at the Laboratory for Applied Optics.

Second, an investigation of the X-rays emitted from the plasma in the supra-kilovolt energy range and determination of the possibility to produce a soft X-ray plasma laser.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
