Objective
The aim of this project is to develop the principles and experimental equipment and to investigate continuous casting of liquid metal using high magnetic fields with a view to improving ingot quality.
Ordinary magnet systems are widely used for similar purposes in metallurgy. But the magnetic flux density of the systems is not high enough for the qualitative shaping of the metal strip. The required field can be provided by a superconducting magnet.
The technology and the prototype of the complete electromagnetic system required to shape the metal flow will be developed and tested on this basis. As a result of this technology both precise casting and electromagnetic propulsion of a liquid metal will take place. They are followed by a useful change in the metal structure and improvements to the surface smoothness of the final product. A detailed proposal for a full-scale prototype will be presented to steel producers and other metal manufacturers. It is expected that this project will enable the production of high-quality structured metal sheets and strips with little waste.
The expected benefits during and after the project execution are that the new technology and experimental equipment for continuous casting production of steel and non-ferrous metal sheets will improve the structure and the surface of the casting products.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
