Objective
This project will set up a network of centres of excellence active in bioelectronics and biomolecular engineering between European laboratories that have established links with each other and with the co-ordinator, Polo Nazionale Bioelettronica (PNB), and corresponding laboratories and institutions of the NIS, with which PNB also has long-established connections. These contacts have materialised in the recently established ELBA Foundation, uniting PNB, Technobiochip (an industrial research company in Italy), several leading Russian research institutions and private R&D companies.
The project will carry out site-directed mutagenesis of metalloproteins; perform the isolation and purification of metalloproteins; develop thin film formation of native and mutant proteins; develop the theoretical modelling of native and mutant proteins; and carry out solution and film characterisation by various biophysical probes to develop practical applications, like biooptical switching.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
