Objectif Magnetized plasmas are met in the earth environment, ionosphere and magnetosphere, as well as in laboratory devices (e.g. in controlled fusion experiments). These plasmas are non-perturbatively observed by the scattering of electromagnetic waves of large wavelength, using either radar or laser sources. This is the so-called collective scattering signal. A remarkable feature of this signal is that it is found with a very large intensity and low-frequency spectrum, much different from a uniform quiescent plasma. The characteristics of this scattered signal are believed to contain information on the plasma constituents spatial distribution and motion. In laboratory plasma-like fusion experiments it is especially worth interpreting this signal since it might directly show the plasma diffusion and loss of confinement across the magnetic field lines. This programme seeks to master this information. It includes a theoretical effort on the interpretation of this collective scattering. It also includes several specific experimental efforts: to analyze the scattered signal information (detect fast particle induced fluctuations and find a turbulent diffusion coefficient wherever it exists); develop a new scattering concept and device able to detect magnetic fluctuations (namely the cross polarisation scattering); improve the scattering signal sensitivity by enhanced scattering; and reduce the scattering diagnostic space and cost requirement in laboratory plasmas by monostatic radar backscattering.
