Algebraic and logic models for computer science and applications

Objective

The objective of the research is to develop methods to construct logical formalisms for describing and analysing dynamic situations with applications to programming and modeling, to develop algorithmic tools supporting possible applications and to understand the complexity limitations on applying the formalisms.

Specific objectives of this project are to increase and stimulate the collaboration which exists between some participants, to initiate new collaboration between other participants and to support financially the research activity of NIS participants.

The research activities will have four main themes: proof theory, probability logics and non-classical logics; applications of mathematical logic in computer science; pseudo-varieties of algebras and their connections with varieties; complexity of programming logics.

All four themes are focussed on development and analysis of formal tools based on different types of logic and algebraic systems and aimed at the applications mentioned. These applications are characterized by dynamism which cannot be captured in an efficient way by classical logical or more traditional mathematical methods.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
