Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe MEGA

Objective

The project aims at the completion of several volumes of the MEGA2 Vol. II/4.3; the completion of the next section of Vol. IIV13 and of the description of the Russian books which once belonged to Marx and Engels. Further, the project aims at improving the quality of the edition by improving the exchange of information. The idea of a historical-critical edition of the collected works of Marx and Engels was raised before 1914. Work on the first MEGA was started in the 1920s and it was stopped in the 30s. A fresh start was made in Russia in the late 60s.

In 1990 the International Marx-Engels Foundation (IMEF) was established. According to its statutes the main task of the IMEF is to continue the publication of the MEGA. It was decided to start a new and really comprehensive MEGA, in which the development of the various texts would be presented in accordance with the most up-to-date principles of historical-critical editing.

The editorial work on a MEGA2 volume will comprise research activities on the completion of the volume of MEGA2 Vol. II/4.3 the completion of the next section of the following volume: Vol. II/13, and the completion of the description of the Russian books.
