Molecular organization of extended regions of cereal genomes enriched with different repetitive DNA sequences

Objective

The project is specifically targeted at the study of the long-range organization of those parts of cereal genomes, wheat, rye, barley and wild relatives, that are enriched with repetitive DNA sequences. The main goal of the project is the identification of gross organizational structures and molecular analysis of the extended repeat regions in the cereal genomes.

The investigation will be carried out in two directions: identification, cloning and analysis of tandemly organized DNA sequences from different genomes of wheat, rye and barley; analysis of the extended repeat regions contained in the family of different shorter repetitive sequences.

This investigation will make it possible to show the nature, molecular organization and physical locations of different types of repetitive DNA in the cereal genomes and to identify molecular markers within this class of sequences that are characteristic either for separate species or for separate chromosomes of karyotypes. The primary structure of extended repeat regions of the barley genome enriched with different repetitive DNA sequences will be studied. The project will lead to a better understanding of the hierarchical structure, evolution and organization of extended repeat regions of the cereal genome.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
