Nonlinear localised modes in complex systems with noise and disorder

Objective

The primary objective of the present proposal is to study dynamical and statistical properties of nonlinear localised modes such as topological defects, polarons and breathers in quasi-one-dimensional mollar systems as well as in lattices of higher dimensions by taking into account their three-dimensional structure, temperature, noisy driving forces and disorder.
The influence of different types of noise on topological solitons and breathers is expected to give rise to the appearance of new specific properties of these excitations which might be detected experimentally. In particular, thermal ratchets and reversal effects in stochastic soliton dynamics concerning mollar motor modelling will be studied extensively. The identification of new criteria for the ratchet soliton motion against a bias field is anticipated.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the nonlinear transport phenomena such as transfer mechanisms of vibrational energy and protons in networks of hydrogen bonds as well as in other biological macromolles. The well known one-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova model will be essentially revisited and generalised in order to describe point dislocations in two- and three-dimensional crystals. New types of topological solitons are expected to be found in two-dimensional networks of hydrogen bonds and in multi-dimensional nonlinear lattices.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
