Objective
An insight into the interconnection between physics of growth, fundamental properties of quantum dots (QDs) and the resulting laser device characteristics will be gained by this project. Spontaneous formation of ordered nanoscale compositional domains in solids will be used for advanced QD laser fabrication on the basis of already existing extensive experience.
The theoretical model of a QD laser as a quantum composite will be developed. Absorption, capture and relaxation processes in QD will be evaluated and optimal QD geometry will be derived. Gain, spectral and dynamic properties of the QD laser will be investigated. On the basis of theoretical and experimental studies QD lasers with properties improved as compared to those of quantum well (QW) lasers will be created.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
