Objective
The aim of the project is to produce a new, large and deep sample of blue compact galaxies based on objective selection criteria using objective prism plates from the Calar Alto Schmidt telescope, obtained for the Hamburg Quasar survey. The sample shall be used to derive the spatial distribution and the luminosity function of star-forming galaxies, and to derive the local specific star formation rate. A -sample of extremely low-metallicity galaxies shall be selected from the main sample and shall be studied in detail, comparing the properties of the galaxies with the predictions of chemical evolutionary models of galaxies.
