RICH particle detector for HERA-B experiment at DESY: construction and testing and particle identification

Objective

The main objectives of the proposed project are the construction of a large ring imaging Cherenkov detector for HERA-B experiment at HERA ring at DESY and achievement of required quality of particle identification.9The research activities will include investigation, design, construction and testing of the RICH detector's components, mainly:
the photon detector;
creation of software for detector operation;
creation of ring reconstruction and particle identification
(pion-kaon-proton separation) algorithms and programmes. The main results of the project implementation will be a working RICH detector. Some other results, in the form of investigation reports, new algorithms, gained experience and trained staff will be useful in future ring imaging Cherenkov detectors developments. The work will be carried out in co-operation with other research teams, working for HERA-B.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
