Objective
Research is aimed at the understanding the geochemical and biogeochemical role of bacteria in the carbon cycle at the aerobic / anaerobic interface in the Black Sea as the ideal place for the study of the marine biogeochemical dynamism of a redox cline. The microbial community and the activity of the different microbial groups in production and destruction of organic matter and methane cycling at the aerobic / anaerobic interface will be investigated. The modern techniques of microbiology, biogeochemistry and organic chemistry elaborated in the Institutes of the participants will be used.
It is planned to organize two expeditions during the contrast periods in the value of the flux of organic carbon from euphotic zone with maximum in August-September and minimum in February-April.
The results of the study will be published in established international journals on microbiology, biogeochemistry and oceanology and will be used in preparation of the joint monograph on the microbiology and biogeochemistry of the Black Sea.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
