Swirl flow in power and chemical engineering

Objective

The aim of this project is to investigate properties of swirl flows used in power and chemical engineering (From small-scale Ranque vortex tubes to large scale hydroturbines, vortex furnaces and chemical reactors). We wish to view on all these flows from unique point, based on the theory of helical vortex structures. Such approach is suitable for development of the theory of similarity of swirl flows. It is an important element for the decision of problems of vortex apparatuses scaling.

The researchers will investigate vortex structures arising in swirl flows in model of vortex furnace; in a hydraulic vortex tube; in an air vortex tube; in a model of liquid-gas vortex separator; in a model of vortex flow-rate-meter; in a model of hydroturbine; in a model of mixing device; in a model of photobioreactor.

The numerical simulation of vortex structures in swirl flows with various methods will be made.

The results of work will be presented as scientific papers in journals and will be presented at international conferences.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
