Development of a position sensitive detector for PET, CT and Gamma cameras with improved sensitivity and spatial resolution

Objective

The main objectives of this project are: 1) Perfection of growing technology of (Lux-Y1-x)AlO3:Ce crystals with 0.2 and 0.7 lutetium content in (Lu-Y) system. 2) Development of Gamma Camera and PET/CT detector prototypes based on (Lux-Y1-x)AlO3:Ce crystals. Research activities on the project will include: 1) Study the crystal optical properties and their dependence on technological factors. 2) Optimization of horizontal Bridgeman (HB) growing technology of (Lux-Y1-x)AlO3:Ce crystals with 0.2 and 0.7 lutetium content in (Lu-Y) system to increase the crystal transparency and light yield. 3) Gamma Camera and PET/CT detector design and prototyping. 4) Evaluation of detector prototypes. Expected result of the project will consist in development of significantly improved (Lux-Y(1-x))AlO3:Ce scintillation crystals opening the possibility for development of novel medical imaging instrumentation. Main expected fields of this material application are: 1) Nuclear medicine. 2) Environmental monitoring and well logging.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
