A preliminary investigation of the solar-terrestrial system in preparation for the extension of super dual auroral radar network (SuperDARN) into Siberia

Objective

This project will produce results on a number of topics in the field of solar terrestrial physics. At the core of this activity will be the study of energy transfer through the solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere system. Specifically, investigation of the variability of the electron density structure in the East Asian sector will be undertaken as well as their effects on HF radio propagation.

An understanding of the latter will enable the study of atmospheric gravity waves to quantify how they distribute the energy deposited into the auroral zone to lower latitudes. The penetration of the electric field to lower latitudes will also be determined, and a new numerical model of the electric field based on spacecraft observations will be produced. This work will also prepare the way for the construction and deployment of new radars which will contribute to the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN).

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
