Objective
The objective of VITEWE is to develop a method that allows the optimisation of welding parameters using a virtual reality procedure before the execution of the actual welding. This method will be based on sophisticated mathematical models, advanced methods of numerical simulations, a specially created database concerning welding technologies and equipment, and an advanced virtual reality graphical representation of the welding.
The virtual welding experiment will be organised as follows:
the user will choose the basic welding technology to be used (laser, plasma-arc, electron beam, etc.), the required set up, materials to be welded, and the welding parameters (speed, power, energy beam diameter);
based on the chosen welding conditions, a virtual experiment will be executed numerically; the evolution of the welding process will be represented by the dynamics of: temperature fields, molten pool shape, keyhole formation, etc.;
the whole virtual experiment will be analysed by a virtual diagnostic equipment such as pyrometers, acoustic emission, thermocouples, spectrometers, etc.;
the result of the virtual experiment will be represented by a 3D image of the obtained welded seam and its cross-sections;
the results of the virtual welding will be analysed and necessary modifications of the parameters will take place before the next virtual welding.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
