Objective
The first aim of this project is to develop a 0.13 im CMOS/SOI technology in Europe, by gathering European experienced laboratories (IMEC, LETI, INPG, IEMN, EPFL) and industrial companies (ST, INFINEON).
As power consumption can be much reduced by using a Silicon On Insulator technology, a 0.13?m CMOS/SOI process should give advantageous solutions for the future "software radio" with multimedia services (video, Web browsing, fax, e-mail, paging services, etc), which will require high speed - low power DSP circuits. As CMOS/SOI can also be used in RF functions as well, with high performances expected for short-channel lengths, it is a promising candidate for these wireless applications. The competition with BICMOS technologies is in favour of SOI mainly for two reasons: the power consumption and the process complexity, which should be both reduced in case of SOI.
