Micromechanical widely tunable VCSEL for WDM telecommunication systems

Objective

Tunable vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) are key components allowing flexible, reconfigurable implementations of high-speed optical telecommunication networks. The know-how of InP-based MOEMS technology and the state-of-the-art VCSEL devices will result in a novel, unique component with increased functionality at potentially low cost while relying on the basic technology already established in the 4th European framework programme. The aim of this research project is to develop and demonstrate a novel widely tunable laser source based on InP. The essential part of the project is to combine optical and microelectromechanical (MOEMS) functions with the active part of a VCSEL in the long wavelength range. Technology transfer from research is ensured by participation of industrial partners playing a leading role for development and manufacturing of optoelectronic and telecom components in Europe.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
