Production and Presentation Environment using Agents for building Information Channels

Objective

PEACH aims to develop an editorial system for the development, production and provision of personalized information channels. Opposed to conventional editorial systems, the system shall cover the complete publishing value chain, from offering pro-active information acquisition functionality for editors by using agent based information retrieval techniques, to customer-oriented personalised content packaging and delivery, including support for different business models (e.g. integration of ads, pay-per-vie models etc.).

The targeted application should be flexible according to underlying business processes and applied business model for placing the information channels in the market. PEACH aims to develop business models for information channels, supporting commercial exploitation of information services.

Work description:
In the first phase of the project, findings obtained during the preliminary phase pilot called PAIR (IE-8041) will be updated. Based on the resulting user requirements towards information channels, business models for commercial information channels will be developed. Facing the need to integrate already implemented functionality of products of vendors participating the PEACH project an object-oriented bus structure will be designed.

This bus structure will rely on object technologies as COM/DCOM or CORBA. Standardised document structures will be outlined for the content repositories, with regard to business models, intellectual property right issues and information retrieval aspects. For the development, the developer can use the development framework that is used.

Together with the participating content providers the core PEACH application will be implemented and installed according to their requirements. After that the content provider will start to develop first sample information channels with support of the PEACH application. The last phase in the development life cycle will lead to business plans for the PEACH application as well as for the information channels, generated by PEACH.

Milestones:
The analysis phase of the project will result in a set of PEACH reference processes and the regarding business models. Based on an agreed specification of the PEACH application, an implementation phase will result in custom-tailored PEACH applications.

They support the production of first sample information channels. The last phase of the project results in business plans for the PEACH application and a generic product "information channel".
