Developing Interactive Radios - Automated Content Packaging, Personalised Delivery and Access to Large Distributed Archive

Objetivo

ONRADIO develops and integrates tools and systems for automated Internet Radios with a focus on content exploitation, management and personalised public access to audio archives. The RTD objective is to build and integrate an automated back end server system for audio content access, management and personalisation for Internet Radios with integrated 3-D / e-commerce facilities.

The application objective is to develop five different Internet Radio services based on the exploitation of audio archives and multi-owner content. Applications and services to be developed are:

An Internet Radio service based on current content from audio archives and existing radio websites;
An Internet Radio service based on historic content;
An Internet Radio service based on heterogeneous multi-owner collections;
An automated, highly interactive net-only radio;
A music-based Internet Radio, using old and new material. The ultimate goal of the ONRADIO project is to deliver the technologies and applications that make Internet Radios commercially viable.

Work description:
The ONRADIO consortium consists of two technology and five application partners (one working as a subcontractor). The project work is structured as follows: design / development I / validation - redesign I / development II / validation - redesign II / demonstration. The RTD phase of ONRADIO lasts from month 1 until month 18, while the demonstration phase takes place from month 19 until month 24.

The three workpackages Project Management (WP 1), Assessment and Evaluation (WP 2), and Dissemination and Implentation / Exploitation (WP 10) all span the entire duration of the project. The RTD phase and the Demonstration phase in ONRADIO follow a largely sequential and partly parallel design.

Work is structured in the following workpackages:
Definition of User Requirements and Specifications / User Validation Planning (WP 3);
Systems Specifications (WP 4);
System and Application Development I, Stand-alone (WP 5);
Validation / Redefinition I (WP 6);
System and Application Development II / Integration (WP 7);
Validation / Redefinition II (WP 8);
and Demonstration (WP 9).

ONRADIO is to start with a recap and consolidation of basic views, assumptions and requirements necessary to perform the work. A final definition of objectives and a final selection / specification of technologies (WP 4), user requirements (WP 3) and management approaches (WP 1) will accompany this. This will be completed by a definition of suitable performance measurements (WP 2) for the technical workpackages.

The focus in workpackages 5 to 9 will be on the design, development, validation, implementation and integration of the ONRADIO demonstrators (tools and applications). Whilst the demonstrator's v1.0 will be stand-alone, the demonstrator's v2.0 will be interfaced and integrated into existing use environments. A redefinition phase in-between is designed to consolidate and (user) validate the results and defines how to scale the demonstrators to full-fledged functionality. After a second validation p

Milestones:
Technology-wise, ONRADIO will lead to an automated back end server system for audio content access, management and personalisation, and an advanced e-commerce tool for Internet Radios. Application-wise, ONRADIO will lead to five different highly interactive and automated Internet Radio services. The three major milestones in ONRADIO are on completion of WP 5 (month 8), WP 7 and 8 (month 18), and WP 9 (month 24).
