Trade Fair Web - based Information Services

Résultats exploitables

The FAIRWIS project aims at offering on-line innovative services to support activities of trade fairs and a possibly unlimited number of exhibitors, organised in Web-based virtual fairs. By enhancing Trade Fair information systems, and providing several innovative services on-line, the project allows comprehensive and focused visibility of SMEs within markets, without the need to make large investments into advertising, thus improving the economical European development. The project focuses on three basic differential innovative aspects: - Data provided by the system are up-to-date and dynamically calculated: In fact, the main difference with the actual information systems available is that they have static data, difficult to update and to put on-line in an appropriate format at the same time. The key point in FAIRWIS is: real-time connection with a database. This guarantees - the coherence of data; - their up-to-date status. - Visual appearance: Data have to be presented in a convincing and understandable way. To present data in a compelling layout implies a work to do, if data change dynamically. In other words, the more the Web-based pages are easy to understand and graphically appealing, the more it's difficult to change them without confusing the user. Thus, the project's work includes the development of a basic component of the system called Graphical Engine, that generates 2D and 3D representations to show the retrieved data to the user in an appropriate way. Examples are virtual stands, with reproduce fair grounds, included exhibitors data. To this aim, also virtual reality will be employed, using 2D and 3D scenarios. - The System is developed by using a user-centred approach: In a system that must be effectively used by people, it is fundamental to understand people needs and to distinguish between them: different users have different needs, backgrounds and interests. The actual systems dedicated to trade fairs (as well as most of interactive systems in use nowadays) do not consider any distinction among users. Therefore, in FAIRWIS great effort is employed to develop user models and better understand user needs. This gives the possibility to offer the users the most appropriate data in the most understandable way for their category. After defining the FAIRWIS final prototype and its potentialities, a new set of actions as accompanying measures and own efforts have been done with end and intermediate users in order to extend the use of suitable tools and project outputs in general.
