Objective
The CREATIV project aims at packaging, implementing and deploying the prototype of a search engine that is particularly dedicated to the Textile and Clothing sector. More precisely, the CREATIV project will focus on printed fabrics including the necessary co-operation between contractors and sub-contractors. CREATIV will address the product development process, which becomes a crucial activity in the Textile and Clothing industry since the characteristics of the market faces permanent changes of fashion and style. Competitive advantages of this industry depend on the creativity of the designers and the co-operation of the involved companies spread all over Europe. Such a situation requires an acceleration of the design process while the informational structure as well as the re-engineering of the business processes will contribute to the emergence of Electronic Commerce.
Objectives:
The main technical objective of the CREATIV project is to implement the iTexPlorer software in order to search and retrieve products according to a standard codification. Developed in a recent RTD Esprit project N° 25168, iTexPlorer is the most suitable prototype for electronic commerce (e-Commerce) and information retrieval between customers and suppliers. The CREATIV project intends to offer a solution easy to use, normative, progressive and above all affordable to the users providing to the companies a competitive advantage in the design process. The test bed of CREATIV project will include a business case that enables a group of companies / subcontractors to create a shared workspace for the process of product development. This includes the product search by a set of queries in all stages of the manufacturing process. References to images and other structured information objects will be kept in the database of the test bed as well.
Work description:
The development of a new way of product creation based on a networked organisation and shared information through electronic communications will lead to the capability of accelerating the creation process and therefore enabling a continuous offer of products. Such a solution will contribute to the improvement of consumer satisfaction. The iTexPlorer software has been developed to offer a maximum of simplicity for installation and use. Users who will use this tool are not expected in general to be computer experts, therefore, installation is a sort of 'Plug and Play' and the cost of deployment depends on the size of the user. iTexPlorer software also includes the capability for interconnection with legacy systems enabling the use of standard design tools. As for the integration with other software used today, iTexPlorer is able to produce flat files for the information to be processed and used by other different applications. In addition, iTexPlorer gives access to archives and product databases providing the necessary information to the designers for a better adjustment of its sample production taking the passed and current collections into consideration.
Milestones:
The assessment of the CREATIV project will focus on the adaptation and implementation of iTexPlorer software aiming at building a network of contractors and subcontractors. In addition the evaluation of the targets and business objectives will include organisational and commercial aspects by implementing the CREATIV solutions.
