The Value Added services have been specified based on the user requirements and the data sources available. In this case, each site has adapted the implementation to the site concrete specifications and the results are specific VAS for the different sites.
One of the innovative keys that are obtained from this result is the possibility of obtaining on the move, real time, updated information, allowing the user taking on the move decisions based on real time information. On the other hand, the VAS tries to fulfil the users' needs, known by the system through the process of user profiling and allowing the system to offer customised information as opposed to receiving lots of non interesting information.
In the case of Madrid, the VAS that have been implemented are three:
-Pre-trip planning: the system provides the creation of multimodal itineraries from an origin to a destination in the area of Madrid following the criteria established by the user (minimum changes in the transportation mode, minimum time, optimal criteria).
-On-Trip planning: the system provides real time, updated information about traffic and meteorological incidences. This information allows the user to have an idea of the status of the traffic network that can affect to his/her trip plans, having the possibility of choosing an alternative way.
-Customised information about Madrid: tourism and cultural services and facilities (accommodation, restaurants, monuments, sports, museums) according to the preferences the user has selected or the system has detected from the non-intrusive profiling process.
In the case of Athens, the VAS provided to the users are intercity/intermodal pre-trip and on trip planning by taking advantage of real time information regarding the real as opposed to published schedules of Airlines and Short-sea Shipping Lines. The implemented functionalities are the following ones:
-Trip-Re-planning
-Mode Choice
-Destination Choice
-Accommodation Choice
-Transport Availability
-Accommodation Availability
Finally, the Finnish site has developed the following Value Added services:
-Customised information for he users compatible with the profile and the requirements including several common resort services such as permitted hours, special prices and service availability.
-Customised information concerning the activities the users are interested in such as conditions of the ski tracks. Ski slopes. Snowmobile routes or ski lifts.
-Availability of activity services, for example ski lifts/slops in operation or ski and mountain bike rental services.
-Schedules of transportation concerning the access to the area by public transport (from airport and railway) and by car. The system also includes the schedules of ski-busses in the resort area.
The current status of this result is that it is working efficiently in the three sites and the expected benefits are creating a community of individuals that use normally this service in order to allow intermediate users to adapt their products and offers to the user needs and requirements in a customised way. The trend is always that WHAM becomes an habitual instrument for obtaining on the move information to be used by the individuals, by the SMEs, owners of part of the information integrated in the system and by the administration, owner of another part of the information that makes WHAM a reliable and very innovative system.
