Objective
The objective of PRUE is to demonstrate the value of making usability a concrete issue for consumers and suppliers. A "Common Industry Format" for reporting usability test results is currently being agreed between major software suppliers and purchasers in the USA in an initiative co-ordinated by NIST (the US National Institute of Standards and Technology). PRUE will enhance consumer-supplier relationships by trying, enhancing and promoting use of the CIF format as part of the procurement process. Experienced usability service providers from the network of European Usability Support Centres will work with four pairs of supplier and consumer organisations in three different countries. PRUE will produce a web site of case studies, detailing the costs of producing CIF format usability reports, and the benefits for the supplier and consumer organisations. PRUE will work with NIST to ensure that the final scheme (which is intended to be submitted to ISO) meets European needs.
